A mum came racing in to the clinic desperate for help, she was at her wits end, was unable to cope, her little boy was running away from school, not settling and becoming quite a disruption both at home and in the class room. Because I was fully booked that day, I managed to squeeze in a consultation the next day. He arrived a chatty, happy self-confident little boy. During the consultation many of the questions had to be answered by his mother as he was unable to express what was happening (this is the norm when working with young children). He became increasingly distracted, fidgety and loud. This young man had been at school only a few months, he was struggling to make friends, found it difficult to stick to the classroom rules and did not understand why he wasn’t allowed to go home whenever he wished. At home there had been quite a few stresses and the family had just moved; he was missing his old home.
